THANKS FOR LEADING “Thank You (Famine Or Feast)”

Thank You (Famine Or Feast) - Devotional

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Job 1:21

“Lord, what is your will for my life?”

That’s a question I asked a lot growing up. And if I’m being honest, a question I still ask a lot today (though I may have refined the theology behind how I ask it a little over the years.. the heart remains the same). Maybe you can relate?

Lord what is your will for this situation? What is your will for this new job opportunity? Should we buy this new car? What are you doing amidst this seemingly disastrous circumstance? Where should our family invest and give of our resources? The list goes on and on and on…

Much to my continual surprise, I often don’t know the immediate and clear answer to a lot of these questions. After all, we plan the course but the Lord determines the steps, right? (Proverbs 16:9). But time and time again, I place on myself the weight to make the perfect choice regarding every decision that crosses my proverbial desk. But the older I get, and more mature I grow in my faith, the more I realize this isn’t realistic.

Scripture doesn’t necessarily give us an exact turn by turn navigation system when it comes to life’s millions of decisions. But the Lord is awfully clear, and encouragingly simple, regarding how to process and approach every decision and circumstance —

Rejoice always.

Pray continually.

Give thanks in all circumstances.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says it like this — “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

So what is God’s will for your life? Well, it’s actually really simple.

Be joyful always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances. That’s it.

In famine or feast, plenty or need, in season or out of season — just give thanks. It’s not aways easy, but it is possible. And it changes everything.

And then pray. And when you’re done praying, pray some more. And as I’m slowly learning, this actually leads to a lot of joy. More than I knew was possible Because you are walking in obedience to the Lord and in his will. And he is good!

And those decisions you and I have to make today? Well, they’ll unfold and figure themselves out I am sure. And you’ll have so much more gratefulness, joy, and peace in the process.

LYRICS:

VERSE 1
From the beginning of time
To the end of every day
Your promises stand
Your truth will never change

PRE-CHORUS
In famine of feast, in plenty or need
When I am weak you are strong
The water may rise, the river run dry
But stirring inside a song

CHORUS
Can we just say thank you
Can we just say thank you Lord
For you are God and you are good
For you are God and you are good

VERSE 2
In every season I face
Your faithfulness remains
For you are my peace
And your heart will never change

PRE-CHORUS
In famine of feast, in plenty or need
When I am weak you are strong
The water may rise, the river run dry
But stirring inside a song

CHORUS
You are holy
All creation sings
You’re worthy
Of the highest praise
With all my heart
I will worship You always

CHORUS
You are holy
All creation sings
You’re worthy
Of the highest praise
With all my heart
I will worship You always

In famine of feast, in plenty or need
When I am weak you are strong
The water may rise, the river run dry
But stirring inside a song
